Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit team were working toward at least a top-15 Saturday at Dover International Speedway when the seventh restart of the race came to a screeching halt with cars piling up in Sorenson’s direct path. Unfortunately, the bright yellow No. 41 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) Dodge had no way to escape and got collected in the mishap that ended the team’s day in 27th place just 34 laps shy of the finish line.
Sorenson lined up 21st to take the green for the 200-lap competition. His entire run seemed to be hampered by tight cornering and a right rear that didn’t want to stick to the 1-mile track. Fortunately, the No. 41 over-the-wall crew members were on top of their game Saturday, helping Sorenson gain more than 10 spots on pit road. In fact, the team’s second stop of the day resulted in a five-position jump, with the No. 41 Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit Dodge moving from 20th up to 15th as racing resumed on lap 91.
Sorenson raced up to as high as 13th before getting taken out in the late-race accident that ended his day in 27th place on lap 166. Sorenson’s teammate Juan Pablo Montoya finished 14th.
Although the team’s day didn’t end the way it had hoped, the team did take a step up in the overall NASCAR Busch Series points standings where it is now listed in 28th place overall, just 79 away from the top 25.
David Stremme will return behind the wheel of the No. 41 Wrigley’s Winterfresh® car next weekend at Nashville Superspeedway for the Federated Auto Parts 300 on Saturday, June 9. The race is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET and will broadcast live on ESPN2, MRN radio and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
Reed's Quotes
“This is just how our year has been going. We were working to overcome some handling issues we had there early on and thought we were actually going to get out of here today with a top 15, or possibly top 10, but apparently not. I feel bad for the guys on the Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit team. They work so hard to get us out on the track every weekend, so I thank those guys for that and just wish we could’ve left here today with a clean race car and finish.”
