Reed Sorenson’s over-the-wall crew collected the Checkers®/Rally’s® Double Drive-Thru Challenge during Sunday’s Nextel Cup event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was the second pit crew win of the season for Sorenson’s team.
The No. 41 crew, out of the Chip Ganassi Racing stable, spent 359.594 seconds on pit road during the 328-lap event, the least of any participating crew.
“This is a great addition to an already great weekend for the Target team,” said Sorenson. “We had our best run of the season and the best of my career at Atlanta. Much of that is due to the strong performance on pit road. I couldn’t be more proud of the guys and it’s nice that they are being recognized for their hard work and a job well done.”
Sorenson’s over-the-wall crew is made up of: Chuck White (jackman), Marty Forcier (front-tire carrier), Bobby Burrell (front-tire changer), Adam Moser (rear-tire carrier), Jason Sheets (rear-tire changer), Randy Hildreth (gasman), Eric "Pee Wee" Hoyle (catch can), and Shane Bourgeois (eighth-man). The team’s pit crew coach is Lance Munksgard.
Checkers/Rally’s will present Sorenson’s crew with an $11,000 check for winning the weekly competition. An additional $111,150 prize will be awarded to the over-the-wall team with the most wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule.
With three races remaining, the Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru Challenge season championship can still be won by 12 different teams. Mark Martin’s No. 01 crew and Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 crew are currently tied for the lead with four wins each; however, 10 other teams have two or more victories.
If there’s a tie after the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway (Nov. 18), the team that finishes highest in the driver point standings will be awarded the Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru season championship.
