Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 Target Dodge Team Facts:
Hometown Hero(s): This weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) will be a homecoming of sorts for Reed Sorenson, who hails from Peachtree City, Ga. AMS is the site of Sorenson’s first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start, which came on Oct. 30, 2005. Sorenson started the event 22nd and finished 41st after an accident that took him out of contention on lap 133 of 325. Sorenson grew up racing Legends Cars (5/8 scale replicas of classic coupes and sedans of the '30s) at AMS, capturing three track championships (’98, ’99, ’01) 22 wins, 40 top-five finishes and 42 top-10 finishes in 43 starts.
Additionally, Sorenson’s good friend and Target teammate Shane Bourgeois also hails from Peach Tree City. Bourgeois helped Sorenson on his ASA team before moving with him to North Carolina and to Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS). Bourgeois works in the suspension department and provides pit support on race day.
Nothing like the First Time: Sorenson recorded his first career NEXTEL Cup Series top 10 in just his sixth career start in the Golden Corral 500 at AMS on March 20, 2006. He started the event in 15th and rallied from as far back as 30th to bring home a 10th-place finish at his hometown track.
Amping Your World: AMP Energy Drink will adorn the upper-rear quarter panels of the No. 41 Target Dodge at AMS. AMP, a product of PepsiCo, Inc., is based on the original flavor of Mountain Dew, enhanced with energy boosting ingredients.
Goodyear Tire Test: Sorenson and the Target team, along with two other NEXTEL Cup Series teams (No. 24 Jeff Gordon & No. 22 Dave Blaney), participated in a Goodyear Tire test on March 13 and 14. All three teams used the Car of Tomorrow (CoT).
Chassis: Crew chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target team have selected chassis #705 for this weekend. It is a brand new car that will see competition for the first time at AMS.
Points Report: Reed Sorenson and the Target team currently sit 31st in the overall standings. The team is 80 points out of the top 20 and 114 out of the top 10.
Be Sure to Tune In: The Kobalt Tools 500 is set to start at 2 pm ET and will be broadcast live on FOX, PRN radio and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128.
