Sorenson and the Target Team Deliver Top-25 Finish at NHMS
Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 Target Dodge battled for 300 miles in the NASCAR Sprint Cup event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) Sunday afternoon. Sorenson took the checkered in 22nd-place, one lap down from the race winner Greg Biffle.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) qualifying was cancelled for the eighth time this season due to inclement weather in the area. NASCAR set the field based on Sprint Cup Owners points. Therefore, Sorenson rolled off 30th for the Sylvania 300.
With more rain passing through the central New Hampshire area overnight Saturday, NASCAR called for a "competition caution" on lap 35 to allow teams to gauge their car's handling on a "green" track. Once the green flag waved, Sorenson drove up four spots quickly before the first caution. The team made major adjustments to assist with the handling of the No. 41 Dodge. The lengthy stop landed Sorenson in 36th place as the field came around for the restart.
The 22-year-old worked his way through the field within several laps. While Sorenson fought to find grip on the track, he maintained a position within the top 25. By lap 181, the Target Dodge went one lap down to the race leader while running in the 25th spot. The second half of the 300-lap event saw several cautions. Sorenson kept his nose clean and worked his way to cross the finish line 22nd.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Dover International Speedway next weekend. ABC will carry live coverage of the Camping World RV 400 beginning at 1 p.m. ET. The green flag is scheduled to wave at 2 p.m.
