Sorenson's Day Ends Before It Begins at Talladega
Engine problems resulted in a 43rd-place finish for Reed Sorenson and his Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) No. 41 Polaroid team at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday afternoon.
Sorenson started the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event 25th. On lap five, Sorenson radioed to crew chief Donnie Wingo something was wrong with his Polaroid Dodge. The team noted the engine was blowing up and shortly after retired the CGRFS Dodge to the garage.
The No. 41 team dropped one position to 32nd in the overall standings and is now 351 points out of 12th, which is the final cutoff for the Chase. Sorenson’s CGRFS teammate Juan Pablo Montoya delivered a second-place finish at the Superspeedway, moving him to 12th in the NSCS standings. Adding to the success, Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Rolex Sports Car Series and IndyCar teams both added a win this weekend marking the 93rd and 94th win for Chip Ganassi Racing, Inc.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will next race at Richmond International Raceway on May 3. Live coverage begins at 7 p.m. EDT on FOX (TV) and MRN (Radio).
Reed Sorenson: “It is such a huge disappointment for my team and Polaroid. We had a good race car here, but didn’t get a chance to show it. I appreciate everyone’s hard work and hopefully we’ll get our luck turned around soon.”
