Did you Know?: The Target team earned the pole
last year using the same car with which Casey Mears
used to break, and still holds, the track record at IMS
on August 7, 2004. He turned a lap of 48.311
secs/186.293 mph.
1-2 Start: Being 1-2 at IMS is nothing new for Chip
Ganassi Racing, Inc. (CGR). In last year’s NSCS
Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, Sorenson and Montoya
saw a 1-2 combination with a pole-starting position
and second-place start, respectively. This past May,
Target teammates, Dixon and Weldon also sat 1-2
for the Indy 500. The two CGRFS cars look to
continue that trend this weekend.
Target Opening: Reed Sorenson will take part in the grand opening of a Target Superstore in Charlotte, N.C., this Tuesday, July 22. Sorenson has been invited to officially open the store by cutting the ribbon with local Target executives. The store, which will employ over 350 people from the local area, will be open to the public next week.
In the Points: The 31st-place finish two weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway kept Sorenson 32nd in the championship driver standings, with a total of 1496 points. The No. 41 entry is 32nd in the series' owner standings with 1545 points, 360 points out of the top 20.
Indiana Native: Target team mechanic and rear tire changer Jason Sheets hails from Indianapolis. He has been with CGRFS for more than four years and has been involved with NASCAR for nearly 10 years.
Bowling for Charity: Sorenson will participate in the Jeff Gordon Foundation Charity Bowling Tournament this Thursday night, July 24, in Indianapolis. Teammate Juan Pablo Montoya also plans to take part in the annual tournament which benefits Riley Hospital for Children.
