Pocono history: Reed Sorenson has participated in five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) events at Pocono Raceway. His best start to date is 10th (Aug. 2007) and finish is 24th (June 2007) at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. Sorenson led five laps during the track’s August competition last year. The 22-year-old started 31st and finished 33rd in his last visit to the track in June.
Target Opens 43 Stores: Target announced Sunday, July 27, the opening of 43 Target stores. Target now serves guests at 1,648 stores in 47 states nationwide. Also, Target gives more than $3 million a week to its local communities through grants and special programs. Since opening its first store in 1962, Target has partnered with nonprofit organizations, guests and team members to help meet community needs.
Did you know?: If Target were to completely fill the
infield of Pocono Raceway with an average sized
126,000-square-foot store, they could build 37
altogether. That is only 11 fewer than the total
number of Target stores in the state of Pennsylvania.
In the Points: The top-20 finish last weekend
allowed the CGRFS team to move to 29th in the
NSCS owner standings. With a post-Indy total of
1675, the team is 218 points out of 25th. Sorenson
remains 31st in the championship driver standings,
with a total of 1,608 points.
On the Verge of History: A win this weekend in the NSCS, NNS or Grand-Am races would mark Chip Ganassi Racing Team’s, Inc. (CGR) 14th victory of the 2008 season. The landmark win would beat last year’s record for the team’s most victories in a single season, which was 13. The next victory will also mark the 103rd for the team since 1994. The current tally of 13 is comprised of Scott Dixon’s five IndyCar wins, Dan Wheldon’s two IndyCar wins, and six Grand-Am Sports Car victories by Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas. The past three seasons for the team have proved to be the most successful in history (1990-2008), as 37 of the 102 wins have been scored in that stretch.
