Sorenson Geared Up for Showdown Action at Charlotte!
As the sun dips in the North Carolina sky on Saturday night, Reed Sorenson will climb behind the wheel of the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota and challenge for one of the coveted spots in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). Finishing first or second at Charlotte Motor Speedway will secure him a spot in the 26th running of the All-Star event. This will mark Sorenson’s sixth appearance in the Sprint All-Star Showdown Race.

* Braun Racing and the No. 32 Dollar General team make their Sprint All-Star Weekend debut!
Braun Racing was founded in 2002 by Winamac, Ind., native Todd Braun. A former driver, Braun first fielded a team in the ARCA Racing Series. In 2003, he expanded into the NASCAR Nationwide Series and has since grown his organization into a four-car operation. The largest independent team in the series, Braun Racing was handpicked four years ago by Toyota to help lead their entrance into the series. The team is proud to have claimed Toyota's first Nationwide Series pole at California Speedway (February, 2007) and their first win at O'Reilly Raceway Park (July, 2007).
* Reed Sorenson ushers in a new era for both Braun Racing and sponsor, Dollar General, as together they embark on a limited Sprint Cup Series schedule in 2010.
In addition to his NSCS duties, Sorenson is scheduled to pilot the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota in the Nationwide Series for 23 of the 35 events this year. He has kicked off 2010 in style, bringing home three top-five and five top-10 finishes in only six starts. He has yet to finish outside of the top-15! The No. 32 team is currently FIFTH in the Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship point standings.
* Car chief, Shannon Rursch, has not only participated in the Sprint All-Star weekend excitement in the past, he has been to victory lane for both the Showdown (2006) and the 2008 All-Star Race!
In 2006, Rursch was the underneath mechanic for the No. 10 car driven by Scott Riggs. Riggs started from the pole position and went on to win the Sprint Showdown, clinching a spot in the All-Star Race. In 2008, he served as the car chief for the No. 10 entry. When the No. 10 team failed to finish first or second in the Showdown, he proceeded to volunteer his help to his teammates on the No. 9 team, which was already guaranteed a start in the All-Star event. Kasey Kahne went on to drive the No. 9 car to victory lane that night! Rursch wore his All-Star Race victory lane hat for inspiration this week as he worked to set-up the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota.
* Chassis #204 is ready for some action at Charlotte!
The Dollar General team will unload chassis #204 for this weekend’s Sprint Showdown at TMS. This car was last seen on track at Texas Motor Speedway where it made its debut.
Reed Sorenson on the Showdown:
“Sprint has done a great job with the Showdown and All-Star Race. It’s a pretty simple strategy. You just go out there and either win or finish second. This is an all-or-nothing race and you can bet everyone will race each lap like it’s the last on that final 20-lap shootout. This is one of those events where anything can happen. I know we are an underdog going into this, especially given the guys who are going to have to race in this year. But the underdog can surprise you, and these guys have worked hard getting the car ready. I think it is a lot more relaxed of a weekend until the green flag drops then it’s pretty much a Saturday night short-track race on a speedway. You’ll see guys taking chances that they’d never do during a regular race. No doubt there will be a lot of excitement. I think that’s why it’s so popular with the fans.”
