Notes of Interest:

·Sorenson and the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) head to Richmond International Raceway (RIR) with the “New Car.” Drivers and teams will participate in an extended test session on Thursday afternoon at the 0.75-mile track. This weekend will mark the third appearance of the “new car” and its first at a short track.

o At Daytona International Speedway, Sorenson was forced to a back-up car when the Dollar General Camry fell victim to a blown tire after running over debris during practice. He drove the Dollar General Toyota from his 42nd starting position up to the 13th spot but was relegated to a 22nd-place finish when the right front tire exploded in the final laps.

o At Michigan International Speedway, he started from the 13th spot and drove the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota to an eighth-place finish.

· Sorenson will make his seventh NNS start at RIR.  He has started outside of the top-10 on only one occasion (15th; Sept., 2005) and logged his best start of second in the April, 2010 event.  Sorenson has one top-five and four top-10 finishes and has led four laps around the Virginia-based track.

· By the Numbers at Richmond!  Sorenson ranks in the top-10 in several of NASCAR’s Loop Data categories.  These categories include:  Passes in Turn One (5th), Passes in Turn Two (6th), Passes in Turn Three (10th), Passes in Turn Four (10th) and Quality Passes (6th).

· Heading home….Chris Haymaker, Virginia-native and interior specialist for the No. 32 Dollar General team, grew up in Moneta, 150 miles west of Richmond.  At age 14, he began working on Late Models at local Virginia tracks like Motor Mile and South Boston.  He moved to North Carolina after graduating from Staunton River High School and attended Carolina Motorsports Tech in Hickory.  After working for a number of teams, Haymaker joined Braun Racing in fall, 2006.

· The Dollar General team heads to RIR with chassis #016.  As the NASCAR Nationwide Series gets set to make its third start with the “new car,” the Dollar General team heads to RIR this weekend with #106. This car was last seen on-track at Michigan International Speedway where Sorenson qualified 13th and finished eighth.

Reed Sorenson on Richmond International Raceway:

“I like racing at Richmond a lot. It is getting better and better as the asphalt ages because the grooves seem to be getting wider. It is a lot of fun for drivers because we can run two-wide and move around the track to find where the car works best. It’s the type of track where you can run side-by-side and give the fans a good show.  Racing under the lights there adds to the excitement. Richmond has just enough banking to give it some speed and really great racing.”

Crew chief, Trent Owens, on the “new car’s” debut on a short track:

“I expect to face the same challenges we did at Daytona and Michigan. The test day that NASCAR has scheduled each time we have had the “new car” has helped a lot. With eight extra hours of practice, we have ample time to shake down the car and adjust on the handling. At Richmond, as we always do with short tracks, we’ll be faced with the issue of brakes. I expect these cars to wear them harder because they are heavier and have a higher sense of gravity. The Cup teams faced similar challenges when they switched cars.”
