Notes of Interest:
· Braun Racing acquired by Turner Motorsports… Last week, it was announced that Turner Motorsports acquired select assets of Braun Racing. The team will continue to operate as Braun Racing for the remainder of the 2010 season. Plans for Turner Motorsports in 2011 include fielding three entries in both the Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series. The NNS driver lineup will be announced in October.
Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO of Dollar General, had this to say about the acquisition by Turner Motorsports:
“We expect that the transition to Turner Racing will go smoothly and will be a positive step for the Dollar General racing team. We continue to support the Dollar General No. 32 team and we look forward to continued success on the track.”
· Guess what Toto? Reed Sorenson is heading back to Kansas! Sorenson has a solid record at the 1.5-mile race track, finishing inside of the top-10 in each of his three Nationwide Series starts! His best start at Kansas Speedway is fourth (September, 2006) and his best finish is sixth (October, 2005). He boasts an impressive average finish of 7.7, an average starting position of 12.3 and has completed 100% of his laps!
· Sorenson is one of seven drivers entered in the Kansas Lottery 300 that have led laps in a NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kansas Speedway in the last five races. Only 16 drivers have led at least one of the 1000 laps from 2005-2009.
· Chassis #54 is ready to head to Kansas! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #054 this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Last seen on track at Atlanta Motor Speedway (September, 2010), this car made its debut this year at Charlotte Motor Speedway (May, 2010) and finished inside of the top-10 in each of its first three races! Sorenson drove it to a fifth-place finish at Kentucky Speedway and eighth-place finishes at both Charlotte and Chicagoland. Unfortunately at Atlanta, the Dollar General team’s night ended early as the No. 32 made hard contact with the inside wall, relegating Sorenson to a 34th-place finish at his home track.
· The Dollar General team heads to Kansas SIXTH in the Nationwide Series Championship Owner’s Points.
Reed Sorenson on Kansas Speedway:
“The Dollar General team has had consistent success at the mile and a half tracks this year. With the exception of Atlanta, where we were running well before we fell out, we haven’t finished any worse than eighth. I like Kansas Speedway a lot. It’s a wide track with multiple grooves which makes for fast and fun racing. Trent [Owens, crew chief] and the guys work really hard to bring great cars to the race track every week. I think we’ll unload fast and then it’s just a matter of tweaking with the handling to get it just right. We are coming off of two top-five finishes. I think the momentum is there with this team right now and we are ready to use that to our advantage.”
