INDIANAPOLIS — Scott Speed finished 25th in the Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Teammate Reed Sorenson ended up 35th after getting caught up in a first-lap accident. Needless to say, it was not a good day.

83 . REED SORENSON

TWO TURNS, DAY DONE: Reed Sorenson’s shot at contending for a Brickyard 400 title ended less than a mile into the race. His No. 83 Red Bull Toyota sustained seriously heavy front and right-side damage during a crash in the second turn of the first lap. It was a simple case of nowhere to go, but the team performed major surgery in 36 laps and Sorenson soon returned to the track in 42nd. He was, however, in ride-around mode and reported an electrical problem on lap 123. Day done in 35th.

CALAMITY CORNER: “I just can’t believe that happened in the second corner.” — Sorenson on the first-lap crash

VITAL SIGNS: The No. 83 remained 24th in the car owner standings, still 144 points behind the No. 98 in 23rd.

EVERY POINT COUNTS: The No. 83 crew’s fast-paced facelift after the first-lap crash paid off. Sorenson improved seven positions — a gain of 21 points and a total enough to hold 24th place in points.
