REED COMES AWAY WITH SECOND-STRAIGHT PODIUM FINISH

Reed and the #29 Target/Havoline Dodge finished  3rd at the Kentucky Speedway in the longest 2 day show EVER!
Friday found the ASA National Touring Series facing another day of rain and no qualifying.   With the new aero packages, the series officials felt the pracitice time was far more important track usage.   Everyone made the field and were given two evening practice sets.

The RSR team struggled in practice, making numerous changes in preparation for Saturday's 150 lap race.   At the end of the day we were still unsure we had found a good set up for the race.    When the green flag dropped Reed started 6th and ran in the top 15 all evening, constantly making changes on pit stops.   With Mike Garvey in a comfortable lead, Reed found himself in the top 5 in the final laps of the event and closed in on Butch Miller's #52 on the white flag lap but had to settle for 3rd, making this his 3rd podium of 2004.
For Sorenson, it was his second-straight podium finish, following his runner-up at Elko (MN).   He barley survived too.  Sorenson's hood was damaged following a mid-race restart.  The hood was bowed up and the grill was all pushed it, but it didn't affect his Dodge too much!
“On a restart, the 5 car (Jason Dietsch) went and then slammed on the brakes, so I slammed on the brakes.  Then he went again and I went and he stopped again and I
just nailed him.  I was too close behind him and just ran right into him.  I don’t know if someone missed  a shift in front of him or what,” said Sorenson.

“Every time we came in, we were working on trying to push the hood and grill down so I could see better too.  We were loose the whole race and at the end I was getting a little nervous to drive it deep in there.  I saw a couple of guys back it in the wall.  The first time here, we backed one into the wall, so I know what it is like to get loose here and not be able to save it.

“On the last few laps, I decided that I needed to go.  I almost lost it one time there but I gathered it back up.  It was a good run.”
