TOO MUCH TIME, TOO LITTLE TIME

The story of Lanier National Speedway ASA event for title contender Reed Sorenson was "too many laps, then not enough!"

Starting his Target/Texaco Havoline Dodge in the 12th position proved interesting and challenging.

He had a good car during practice and on the long runs on old tires, maintained consistent speeds, but with 137 laps of cautions, the #29 car never experienced any long runs.

"We just didn't have any laps to get back up to the front.  We really got screwed by the choose rule tonight. We had no time to move our way back to the front.  We just kept getting stuck behind stupid lapped cars running side-by-side.  We had a third- to fifth-place car that finished 15th tonight.

The anticipation of short track racing at it's best was apparent and the caution filled race became one of survival and the "choose rule."

With 50 laps to go the RSR team had made their way back to the front in fifth position, but Reed picked up some debris on the track that caused a flat right rear tire and he had to come in for a late race pit stop.

"It is a really bad deal because we must have run over a bungee cord or something that came off of one of the damaged cars out there.  I was riding around under caution
and I could hear something beating against the back wheel well and it finally stopped.  As soon as the green came out, the tire let go and went flat.

"It was all I could do to save it, but luckily the caution came right back out and we were able to pit and get the tire changed."

Upon returning to the tail end of the field, Reed ran out of green flag laps to return to the front, posting a disappointing 15th place finish.
